Holistic Treatments 101

Holistic Treatments 101

Posted by The Violetta Company on Jul 22nd 2020

Holistic treatments or medicine is a type of healing that envelops the body and mind, including emotions, and the spirit. This type of therapy is used to help a person fulfill optimal health and wellness through alternative methods. In contrast, traditional medicinal practices concentrate on solving an isolated issue. Holistic treatments are said to focus on interdependent parts of the body. For instance, if one area is not functioning correctly, others will be affected in both prominent and subtle ways.

In the United States, many people believe that holistic care can help a wide range of ailments and is more effective for some disorders than conventional medicine. While there is no firm evidence to support this notion, that doesn’t rule out the assistance natural remedies may give to individuals.

Types of holistic treatments

There are several types of treatments available that concentrate on helping individuals take control of their own well-being and overall health. Below we discuss some of the most popular forms of treatment that are available across the US.

Traditional Chinese medicine

Chinese alternative treatments have been practiced for thousands of years. This practice has evolved during this time, but the age-old teachings and origins still remain a focus on healing the body and mind with natural and homeopathic solutions. Alongside physical practices, there is also a range of herbal products that are used.

Take a look at some of the most common Chinese complementary and alternative medicine:

Acupuncture

This technique is said to help patients treat a range of conditions from back pain to fertility issues. It involves placing thin needles through the skin on specific areas of the body to stimulate the body’s natural painkiller. This method is also said to affect parts of the brain that help us process pain.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a well-known practice that involves combining gentle movements and gestures to help focus the mind and breathing. Research has suggested that individuals practicing Tai Chi could experience better balance and stability and assist those with Parkinson’s disease. This ancient technique is also used to promote a better quality of life and is said to improve your mood.

Herbal products

Chinese medicine is renowned for its use of herbal products. This alternative medicine has been around for thousands of years, and many people use these techniques across the world. Studies have been carried out on their effectiveness on issues such as mental health disorders, heart disease, and respiratory conditions. However, there is no firm evidence at present that supports these findings.

There is a lot of information on Chinese herbal products. It is advisable to research specific medicines before trying them. With any topical treatment, there is the risk of adverse reactions, and it is suggested to check ingredients before ingesting any unknown herbal products.

Complementary and alternative therapies

There is a range of alternative therapies that are suggested to aid a variety of ailments. Take a look at some popular holistic approaches below:

Chiropractic care

This type of treatment involves hands-on manipulation to improve the musculoskeletal structure. It is said to help the body heal itself naturally and is used to enhance the movement and mobility of the joints. Chiropractors use a variety of manipulation methods, sometimes in isolation or to support traditional medicine.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is an alternative treatment that uses highly diluted substances, which are said to help the body heal itself. While some people believe the practice to be useful, there is little evidence to suggest that it is an effective treatment. It is hailed a safe, gentle, and natural way to heal the body. Plus, it is said to work with the body to restore itself and improve overall health.

Naturopathy

This practice is another system that promotes self-healing within the body’s own processes. It incorporates a wide range of treatments, including nutrition, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, herbal medicines, and many others. It is said to harness nature’s healing power and give the body the right conditions to stimulate recovery.

Do CBD oil and natural remedies fall into this category too?

CBD is an increasingly popular wellness product that is suggested in the public domain to help improve a range of ailments that affect the body and mind. CBD derives from the cannabis plant. However, it is not a psychoactive compound and is often confused with its sister property THC. There is a range of products (that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration does not allow to be called dietary supplements at this time) available such as ISO hemp oil, and THC free CBD oil. These might potentially be proven one day to unlock a host of benefits for your body and mind – but it is important to note that the FDA does not allow companies to make any medical or health-related claims regarding CBD products at this time. So we do not make or endorse such claims ourselves as a company until the government provides further clarification on allowable language.

Western medicine

Western medicine is most prominently known as the traditional form of medicine and surgery in hospitals and doctor’s offices. It has some distinct differences from alternative techniques, mostly on the approach to science and the body.

While complementary and alternative medicine focuses on the body and mind as a whole, western medicine treats specific diseases, illnesses, and symptoms using drugs and surgery.

Western medicine involves an evidence-based approach and has access to a range of testing and diagnosis practices to ensure the right treatment is used for the patient. Prescription drugs administered through western medicine must be done by a qualified professional and are not available for general sale over the counter. In comparison, alternative medicines and herbal products are not regulated and can be purchased without a prescription.

There is typically a goal in mind when using western medicine. For example, analyzing symptoms results in a diagnosis. After this is completed, a course of action is taken to relieve the symptoms or treat the disease. The result is a better quality of life.

While the differences in western medicine and alternative approaches are prevalent, there is still a resounding conversation about how each helps patients in unique ways. Although traditional medicine is well researched, more research is being undertaken in regard to different techniques, including how CBD could assist with various ailments.

In short, studying each approach could help you make the decision on suitable treatments, and open your mind to new and innovative healing techniques.
